How to fight Hunter
Beat Beast Mastery Hunter
What they want to do
Keep the pet on a target, stack Barbed Shot, then Bestial Wrath plus Call of the Wild. They win Solo Shuffle if you ignore the pet and dump a go into Aspect of the Turtle.
Main danger
Pet damage during Bestial Wrath, plus Aspect of the Turtle eating a stun. Intimidation is the setup — the pet is the kill.
Interrupt priority
1 Their healer
You almost never interrupt the hunter. Hold the interrupt for the healer they are killing.
1 Your casts in Counter Shot range
They interrupt you. Do not hard-cast at 40 yards during Bestial Wrath — they lock you out while the pet kills you.
2 Intimidation (pet stun — not a cast)
You cannot kick it. Crowd-control the pet or trinket the stun. Looking for a hunter cast is how you die.
Watch for
- Bestial Wrath overlapping Call of the Wild — that is the go you die to. Wall or crowd-control the pet before it lands.
- Aspect of the Turtle used to immune a crowd control, then Bestial Wrath. Sit Turtle; do not dump into it.
- Intimidation on you as the pet is already attacking. Crowd-control the pet or trinket the stun.
- Feign Death into Freezing Trap at your feet. Look down before you recast.
Offensive cooldowns
- Bestial Wrath. Hunter and pet both spike. Wall or crowd-control the pet before this lands, not after.
- Call of the Wild. Extra pets, extra Kill Commands. This is the overlap with Bestial Wrath you actually die to.
- Barbed Shot. Uptime engine. If the pet is hitting you, Barbed Shot is rolling. Crowd-control the pet to break the loop.
- Kill Command. The pet hit. You cannot line it if the pet is on you — crowd-control or kill the pet.
Defensive cooldowns
- Aspect of the Turtle. Full immunity. Sit. They often Turtle a stun, then immediately Bestial Wrath. Do not dump offensive cooldowns into it.
- Survival of the Fittest. Damage reduction. Keep chip pressure unless Bestial Wrath is also up.
- Feign Death. Drops targeting and some damage-over-time effects. Do not recast instantly — Freezing Trap is coming.
- Roar of Sacrifice. Pet external on a partner. Treat it like a small wall; swap or wait the duration.
- Exhilaration. Self and pet heal. Keep going unless Aspect of the Turtle is also up.
Crowd control
- Intimidation
- Freezing Trap
- Binding Shot
- Concussive Shot
- Scatter Shot if talented
Dispels
- Freezing Trap is the crowd control to immune or wait — do not trinket into a second trap.
- Do not trinket Binding Shot; it roots you for Bestial Wrath. Trinket Intimidation if you have to trinket something.
Mobility
Disengage, Aspect of the Cheetah, pet dash. They reset range for free. Do not chase a Disengage in a straight line; Binding Shot is at the landing.
Kill windows
- Aspect of the Turtle and Survival of the Fittest are down and the pet is crowd-controlled
- After Bestial Wrath without a kill
- When they Feign Death in the open with no trap down
When to run
Bestial Wrath is up, the pet is free, and you have no wall. Line the hunter; crowd-control the pet. Do not hard-cast in Counter Shot range.
When to attack
After Aspect of the Turtle. When the pet is trapped or crowd-controlled. After Bestial Wrath without a kill. After a wasted Intimidation.
Common tricks
- The pet is the spec. Intimidation, Kill Command, and half the damage disappear if it is crowd-controlled.
- They Turtle crowd control, not damage — your stun is the bait, Bestial Wrath is the punish. Force Turtle with cheap crowd control, then go.
- Feign Death into Freezing Trap is still real. Look at their feet before you recast.
Common mistakes against them
- Ignoring the pet so Kill Command and Intimidation keep landing.
- Hard-casting in Counter Shot range during Bestial Wrath.
- Dumping your offensive cooldowns into Aspect of the Turtle.
- Trinketing Binding Shot instead of Intimidation.
30 second cheat sheet
- kick
- Do not interrupt the Beast Mastery hunter. Save your kick for their healer. Do not hard-cast in Counter Shot range during Bestial Wrath — they lock you out while the pet kills you.
- watchFor
- Bestial Wrath overlapping Call of the Wild is the kill. They press Aspect of the Turtle on your stun, then Bestial Wrath. Intimidation lands while the pet is already attacking.
- defensives
- Sit when Aspect of the Turtle is up — they often immune your stun, then press Bestial Wrath. Survival of the Fittest is a reduction; keep chip unless Bestial Wrath is also up.
- cc
- Intimidation is a pet stun you cannot kick — crowd-control the pet or trinket it. Do not trinket Binding Shot; it roots you for Bestial Wrath and Freezing Trap follows Feign Death.
- killWindow
- Go after Aspect of the Turtle is used and the pet is trapped or crowd-controlled. After Bestial Wrath without a kill they are often committed with no wall.
- biggestMistake
- Ignoring the pet so Kill Command and Intimidation keep landing, or dumping your offensive cooldowns into Aspect of the Turtle.
