How to fight Priest

Beat Discipline Priest

Threat High12.0.130s cheat sheet

What they want to do

Atonement on the team, Pain Suppression the first stun of the round, then reverse with Mindgames or Psychic Scream into a feared or mind-controlled DPS. In Solo Shuffle they win long rounds if you hit into a fresh Atonement set and never get a second stun.

Main danger

Atonement ramps that turn your damage into their healing, plus Pain Suppression overlapping Power Word: Barrier. Mindgames punishes a healer who keeps healing through it.

Interrupt priority

  1. 1 Mind Control

Kick Mind Control first. A successful Mind Control on a melee is a lost round. They fake the cast to bait the interrupt — hold until it is real, then kick.

  2. 1 Fear (Psychic Scream pre-cast)

If Mind Control is down, kick Psychic Scream before the fear lands. Do not let them fear your stun window. Spread, then dispel if it lands.

  3. 2 Penance

Interrupt Penance on the kill target when they are stabilizing. Do not spend the kick on Penance while Mind Control or Psychic Scream is being cast.

  4. 3 Flash Heal / Ultimate Penitence

Only when Atonement is already rolling and Mind Control and Psychic Scream are both down. Ultimate Penitence is a channel — interrupt or stun it. Flash Heal is the panic hard-cast.

Watch for

  • Pain Suppression on the first stun of the round — that window is eaten; the second stun is when you press offensive cooldowns.
  • Power Word: Barrier dropped on the trapped teammate — drag them out of the dome before you keep hitting.
  • Mindgames the moment you press offensive cooldowns — stop healing and stop offensive cooldowns until it expires.
  • Mind Control on a melee during their damage window — interrupt it or the round is over.

Offensive cooldowns

  • Mindgames. Reversal on whoever they press it on, often your healer. Stop healing and stop offensive cooldowns. Wait the duration, then continue.
  • Ultimate Penitence. Channeled Atonement ramp. Interrupt or stun. Do not let the channel finish while you are hitting their team — that damage is healing them.
  • Schism / Purge the Wicked uptime. Atonement engine. Damage they deal heals allies with Atonement. Purge the Wicked off the kill target if you can. Do not start offensive cooldowns into a fresh full set.

Defensive cooldowns

  • Pain Suppression. External damage reduction on an ally. Swap off that target or wait the duration. They press this on the first stun of every Solo Shuffle round.
  • Power Word: Barrier. Damage-reduction dome. Drag your kill target out of it. Do not finish offensive cooldowns on someone standing in the Barrier.
  • Power Word: Shield + absorb ramps. Do not start offensive cooldowns into a fresh full Atonement set. The damage you deal heals them. Bleed shields with light pressure, then stun.
  • Desperate Prayer. Self heal on the priest. Keep hitting unless Pain Suppression is also on them. This is not an external on a partner.
  • Fade / Phase shift if talented. Threat and damage drop, sometimes a short immunity if they talent Phase Shift. Do not recast instantly; they used it to leave a stun. Re-target after it fades.

Crowd control

  • Psychic Scream
  • Mind Control
  • Silence (if talented)
  • Chastise (holy hybrid builds)

Dispels

  • They dispel magic and some diseases. Do not leave a Polymorph sitting if the priest is free.
  • Psychic Scream is magic — dispel the fear on the partner who could peel, not an absorb on the priest.

Mobility

Angelic Feather, Leap of Faith. Leap of Faith is a peel and a setup: they yank your kill target off the stun, or throw someone into the clump for Psychic Scream. Do not stand on edges. Root the Feather landing; do not chase the grip in a straight line.

Kill windows

  • Pain Suppression and Power Word: Barrier are both down
  • After Mindgames resolves and they have no trinket
  • When they Leap of Faith themselves out of position

When to run

Full Atonement plus Pain Suppression on your kill target. Swap. Hitting into that ramp is how Solo Shuffle rounds go long.

When to attack

On the second stun, after Pain Suppression and Power Word: Barrier are both down. Best if they already spent Mindgames and Psychic Scream, or Leap of Faith themselves out of position.

Common tricks

  • They Pain Suppression the first stun of every round. Plan two stun windows before you press offensive cooldowns.
  • Leap of Faith cancels your line of sight on purpose — they pull the kill target around the pillar you just used.
  • Mindgames is held for your healer, not the DPS. Stop the heals when it lands, then continue the stun.

Common mistakes against them

  • Going on the first stun of the round into Pain Suppression.
  • Kicking Penance while Mind Control is being cast.
  • Healing through Mindgames.
  • Clumping for Psychic Scream.

30 second cheat sheet

kick
Kick Mind Control first. If Mind Control is down, kick Psychic Scream before the fear lands. Do not spend the kick on Penance.
watchFor
Pain Suppression on the first stun eats your go. Power Word: Barrier on the trapped teammate is the dome — drag them out. Mindgames reverses greedy heals.
defensives
Swap off Pain Suppression — wait the duration. Drag your kill target out of Power Word: Barrier. Do not start a go into a fresh Atonement ramp; the damage heals them.
cc
Psychic Scream fears the group — spread, then dispel. Mind Control on a melee loses the round if it lands. Do not clump as they press the fear.
killWindow
Go on the second stun, after Pain Suppression and Power Word: Barrier are both down. Best if they already spent Mindgames and Psychic Scream.
biggestMistake
Going on the first stun of the round into Pain Suppression, or kicking Penance while Mind Control is being cast.
