How to fight Warrior
Beat Protection Warrior
What they want to do
Charge the Blitz clump, eat the first caster dump with Spell Block, Shockwave the peel, then Rallying Cry the node. They win when you cast into Spell Block and play them like a damage warrior. Solo Shuffle almost never fields a Protection warrior — treat this as Blitz and battleground advice, and use the same bait-then-stun rules if you get a rare arena tank.
Main danger
Spell Block plus Rallying Cry on the node. Your first crowd-control spell fails, Shockwave plants your healer, and Shield Wall is still available for the next press. Shield Slam and Revenge are the damage — not Avatar, not Recklessness.
Interrupt priority
1 Your own crowd control into Spell Block / Spell Reflection
Throw a cheap instant first to bait Spell Block or Spell Reflection, then stun. Spell Block eats the cast; Spell Reflection sends it back. Do not open the node fight with your real crowd control.
1 Their healer, not the warrior
Protection does not cast the kill. Hold your kick for the healer they Shockwaved, not the warrior.
2 Storm Bolt (on you)
You do not kick this. Trinket Storm Bolt if Intimidating Shout is still available; sit the stun if Shockwave already landed.
Watch for
- Shield Wall the moment a real damage window starts on a Blitz node — stop, swap, do not finish the dump.
- Last Stand at execute range after you already committed. Their maximum health jumps; stop finishing Execute into it.
- Spell Block or Spell Reflection as they Charge in. The first spell of the connect is theirs.
- Rallying Cry on the node so the clump looks stable while Shockwave is coming. Spread before the wave, not after.
Offensive cooldowns
- Shield Slam. Their damage. This is not Avatar and it is not Recklessness. Shield Slam plus Revenge is how they win a node trade, not a burst steroid — stop treating them like Arms or Fury.
- Revenge. Cleave after they block, dodge, or parry. If you are stacked on a flag, this is free damage on everyone. Spread.
- Demoralizing Shout. Your damage into them just dropped. Walk out of it or the melee trade is theirs even before a wall.
- Charge. They pick the target. First connect often has Spell Block or Spell Reflection already pressed. Do not open with your real crowd control.
Defensive cooldowns
- Shield Wall. The Protection wall. Stop the dump and swap off them. This is their identity — not Die by the Sword, not Enraged Regeneration.
- Last Stand. Raises their maximum health at execute range. Stop finishing the dump; swap or wait it out. Do not spend the last cooldown into the health bump.
- Spell Reflection / Spell Block. Throw a cheap instant, then your real stun. Spell Block eats spells while Shield Block is up; Spell Reflection sends one back. Melee keep hitting; casters wait.
- Rallying Cry. Group health increase on the node, not an immunity. Keep chip pressure; do not stop the fight.
- Ignore Pain. Absorb shield. Keep hitting unless Shield Wall or Last Stand is also up.
- Shield Block. Physical block, and the window Spell Block rides on. Casters care because spells start failing; melee still connect.
Crowd control
- Shockwave
- Storm Bolt
- Intimidating Shout
- Hamstring
Dispels
- Intimidating Shout is a fear — dispel it off the peeler, or spread so it does not hit the group on the node.
- Spell Block is not a buff you dispel. Bait it, then stun. Do not spend a purge looking for a magic wall that is not there.
Mobility
Charge, Heroic Leap, and Intervene. They close gaps for free and then they stay. This is not an Arms warrior chasing a kill — they Heroic Leap onto a node and plant. Do not kite in a straight line. Roots and terrain beat a second Charge. Intervene eats a kick or stun for a partner; recast crowd control on the warrior, not on the person they covered.
Kill windows
- Shield Wall is spent — that is when a real press on the tank is allowed.
- After Last Stand, if Spell Block was already baited.
- They overextended off the node with Charge and Heroic Leap both spent.
When to run
When Shield Wall is up, Spell Block is available, and you are in Shockwave range with no personal defensive. Spread before the wave. Do not greed a caster dump into Spell Block. Swap off the node.
When to attack
After Shield Wall is spent. After a baited Spell Block. After Last Stand if Spell Block was already baited. Physical still works through Spell Block — melee keep hitting, casters wait.
Common tricks
- Spell Block is often pressed with Shield Block on first Charge. Throw a junk spell, then the stun is yours.
- They Shockwave the clump, then Rallying Cry so the node looks stable. Spread before the wave, not after it lands.
- Intervene onto a partner eats your kick. Recast crowd control on the warrior, not on the person they covered.
Common mistakes against them
- Casting your first spell into Spell Block.
- Dumping a full damage window into Shield Wall on a Blitz node.
- Waiting for Avatar or Recklessness that is not coming — Shield Slam is the damage.
- Stacking for Shockwave on a flag.
30 second cheat sheet
- kick
- Do not interrupt the Protection warrior. Throw a cheap spell to bait Spell Block or Spell Reflection, then stun. Save your kick for their healer.
- watchFor
- Shield Wall eats the first real go on a Blitz node. Last Stand at execute makes them look dead, then not. Expect Spell Block the moment they Charge in.
- defensives
- Stop the dump when Shield Wall is up and swap. Do not finish execute into Last Stand. Rallying Cry is a group bump on the node, not an immunity — keep chip pressure.
- cc
- Shockwave plants the clump on a flag — spread before it lands. Storm Bolt is the ranged stun on the peeler. Intimidating Shout fears the group — dispel or spread.
- killWindow
- Go after Shield Wall is spent. After Last Stand if Spell Block was already baited. They are killable off the node with Charge and Leap both down.
- biggestMistake
- Casting your first spell into Spell Block, or dumping a full go into Shield Wall on a Blitz node.
