How to fight Hunter

Beat Survival Hunter

Threat High12.0.130s cheat sheet

What they want to do

Stick to a target with Harpoon, stack Wildfire Bomb, then Coordinated Assault plus Intimidation. They win Solo Shuffle if you cannot leave melee and your healer is bombing.

Main danger

Coordinated Assault burst plus constant Wildfire Bomb pressure. Bombs on your healer win rounds that look like they are going on a DPS. Do not treat this spec as a weak melee — the stun into assault is lethal if you stay in Harpoon range.

Interrupt priority

  1. 1 They kick you with Muzzle

You rarely interrupt Survival. Save your interrupt for their healer. Do not cast in Muzzle range during Coordinated Assault — they lock whoever is peeling.

Watch for

  • Coordinated Assault overlapping Intimidation — wall or leave melee before the stun lands. The pet still hits if you only crowd-control the hunter.
  • Wildfire Bomb stacks on your healer, not the kill target — dispel or peel the healer even if they are standing on a DPS.
  • Aspect of the Turtle used to eat crowd control, then Coordinated Assault — the immunity is often for your stun, not for your damage.
  • Freezing Trap at your feet as you trinket Intimidation — do not stand still after the trinket.

Offensive cooldowns

  • Coordinated Assault. Major damage window. Line, wall, or crowd-control the hunter — the pet still hits. Crowd-control the pet during this window so they cannot finish the dump.
  • Wildfire Bomb. Always rolling. Dispel or immunity helps; kiting out of Harpoon range helps more. Do not ignore stacks on your healer while you tunnel the hunter.
  • Flanking Strike / Butchery. Melee damage during Coordinated Assault. Leave melee; do not sit the dump because the hunter looks busy on bombs.
  • Explosive Shot. Do not clump. Two of you in the explosion is free damage during Coordinated Assault.

Defensive cooldowns

  • Aspect of the Turtle. Full immunity. Stop damage. They often press this to eat a stun so Coordinated Assault can land — do not dump a full go into it.
  • Survival of the Fittest. Damage reduction. Keep chip pressure unless Coordinated Assault is also up.
  • Feign Death. Drops targeting and some damage-over-time effects. Do not recast. Watch for Freezing Trap on the landing.
  • Roar of Sacrifice (pet). External damage reduction on a partner. Treat it like a small Pain Suppression — swap off that target or wait the duration.

Crowd control

  • Intimidation
  • Freezing Trap
  • Binding Shot
  • Harpoon root
  • Tar Trap
  • Scatter if talented

Dispels

  • Traps if you have a relevant dispel. Do not stand still after you trinket Intimidation — Freezing Trap is the follow.
  • Magic on allies from other hunters. Wildfire Bomb is not a magic dispel problem; kiting and immunities are.

Mobility

Harpoon, Disengage, Aspect of the Cheetah, Tracker's Net. They pull you in. Do not stand at 8–20 yards unless you can root the landing. Disengage is the exit after a failed Coordinated Assault — cut the angle, do not chase in a straight line.

Kill windows

  • Aspect of the Turtle and Survival of the Fittest are down after they used Coordinated Assault
  • When they Harpoon into a bad position without Disengage
  • Pet dead or crowd-controlled during Coordinated Assault

When to run

Coordinated Assault is up and you have no wall. Leave melee range. Do not sit a bombing hunter without a plan.

When to attack

After Aspect of the Turtle. When they are in melee without Harpoon. After a wasted Intimidation. Crowd-control the pet during Coordinated Assault.

Common tricks

  • Feign Death into Freezing Trap is still a real trap. Do not recast and walk into it.
  • They often Aspect of the Turtle a stun, then Coordinated Assault — the immunity is to eat your crowd control, not to live your go.
  • Wildfire Bomb stacks on the healer win rounds that look like they are going on a DPS. Peel the healer.

Common mistakes against them

  • Ignoring Wildfire Bomb stacks on your healer while you tunnel the hunter.
  • Casting at 10 yards in Muzzle range during Coordinated Assault.
  • Dumping a full go into Aspect of the Turtle.
  • Trinketing Binding Shot instead of Intimidation.

30 second cheat sheet

kick
Do not interrupt the Survival hunter. Save your kick for their healer. Do not cast in Muzzle range during Coordinated Assault — they lock whoever is peeling.
watchFor
Coordinated Assault overlapping Intimidation is their kill. Wildfire Bomb stacks on your healer, not the kill target. Aspect of the Turtle eats a stun so Coordinated Assault lands.
defensives
Stop damage during Aspect of the Turtle. Survival of the Fittest is damage reduction — keep chip unless Coordinated Assault is up. Feign Death drops targeting; do not recast.
cc
Trinket Intimidation, not Binding Shot. Freezing Trap is the follow after you trinket — do not stand still. Harpoon roots you in melee for the bomb window; Tar Trap slows the peel.
killWindow
Go after Aspect of the Turtle and Survival of the Fittest are down and they already spent Coordinated Assault. Crowd-control the pet during Coordinated Assault.
biggestMistake
Ignoring Wildfire Bomb stacks on your healer while you tunnel the hunter, or dumping a full go into Aspect of the Turtle.
