How to fight Shaman

Beat Elemental Shaman

Threat Low12.0.130s cheat sheet

What they want to do

Hex a DPS, then dump Stormkeeper Lightning Bolts and Lava Burst into whoever is left. In Solo Shuffle they win long rounds if Hex resolves and Thunderstorm knocks you off a platform.

Main danger

Stormkeeper burst after a free Hex, plus Lightning Lasso if they talented it. The Thunderstorm knock is how melee die, not the totems.

Interrupt priority

  1. 1 Hex

Kick Hex first. Bait Grounding Totem with a cheap spell before the interrupt. A free Hex is a 2v1 into Stormkeeper. Curse-dispel if you cannot kick; do not trinket Hex.

  2. 1 Lightning Lasso

If Hex is down, interrupt, stun, or break line of sight on the channel. They Lasso the kill target while your healer is crowd-controlled.

  3. 2 Lava Burst

Do not spend the kick on Lava Burst while Hex or Lightning Lasso is in play. Lava Surge instants cannot be interrupted; wait for the hard cast.

  4. 3 Healing Surge

Panic heal. Interrupt it only if Hex is down and they are trying to live through your offensive cooldowns.

Watch for

  • Stormkeeper overlapping a successful Hex is the kill — break line of sight on the Lightning Bolts, or already have a defensive pressed.
  • Lightning Lasso on the kill target as the extra DPS gets Hexed. Interrupt the Lasso or curse-dispel the Hex.
  • Thunderstorm at a platform edge, stairs, or pillar — that knock is how melee die. Step in before they press it.
  • Grounding Totem eating the interrupt on Hex, then Stormkeeper. Throw a cheap spell first, then the real kick.

Offensive cooldowns

  • Stormkeeper. Their kill window. Instant Lightning Bolts. Break line of sight, press a defensive, or already have Hex interrupted. Do not stand still for three bolts.
  • Lava Burst. Main chunk. Instant on Lava Surge — those cannot be interrupted. Do not treat every Lava Burst as a kick. Wait for the hard cast, and never instead of Hex.
  • Earth Shock. Maelstrom dump once Flame Shock is rolling. Press a defensive if Stormkeeper is also up; otherwise this is pressure, not the kill.
  • Liquid Magma Totem. Area pressure. Spread. Kill the totem if you can. Do not clump it with Capacitor Totem at your healer's feet.
  • Flame Shock. Damage-over-time that feeds Lava Surge instants. Dispel it if you have magic dispel. Leaving it up is why every other Lava Burst is instant.

Defensive cooldowns

  • Astral Shift. Large damage reduction. Stop offensive cooldowns or swap. They can still Hex and Lightning Lasso through it — kick those, do not keep dumping damage.
  • Spirit Walk. Snare break into Ghost Wolf. Do not chase a wolf into a totem. Root them after Spirit Walk, not before.
  • Ghost Wolf. Speed and peel. Root them out of Ghost Wolf and they are planted in caster form. That is your kill window.
  • Grounding Totem. Eats one spell. Bait it with a cheap instant before you kick Hex — they drop it as Stormkeeper starts. First spell of the round is theirs.
  • Earth Elemental. Health bump, not an immunity. Keep light pressure. Do not treat the pet as Ice Block; crowd-control the shaman, not the elemental.

Crowd control

  • Hex
  • Capacitor Totem
  • Thunderstorm
  • Lightning Lasso

Dispels

  • Hex is a curse — curse-dispel your partner, do not trinket it.
  • Flame Shock is magic. Strip it off the kill target if you can so Lava Surge stops rolling.

Mobility

Ghost Wolf, Spirit Walk, Thunderstorm knock. They are slow in caster form. Cut wolf angles with roots and terrain; do not sprint in a straight line off a ledge. Stand inside the platform before Thunderstorm, not on the lip.

Kill windows

  • Astral Shift is down after they spent Stormkeeper
  • Grounding Totem is on cooldown and they are in caster form
  • After a wasted Hex or a Lightning Lasso you interrupted

When to run

When Stormkeeper is up, Hex is on a partner, and you are standing on a platform edge. Break line of sight on the Lightning Bolts. Do not stay in melee into Thunderstorm.

When to attack

After they have spent Stormkeeper and Astral Shift is down. Best if Grounding Totem is already used and they are in caster form. After a wasted Hex or a Lightning Lasso you interrupted.

Common tricks

  • They Grounding Totem the kick that would stop Hex. Bait the totem with a filler instant, then the real interrupt.
  • Capacitor Totem often lands at your healer's feet as Stormkeeper starts. Spread before the totem arms.
  • They Thunderstorm you off a pillar, then Hex the partner who stayed up. Step in first, then kick Hex.

Common mistakes against them

  • Casting your first CC into Grounding Totem.
  • Kicking Lava Burst while Hex is on a teammate.
  • Standing on a ledge when Thunderstorm is available.
  • Ignoring Flame Shock because it looks like a filler damage-over-time effect.
